Is a check on my ID allowed if I work in the transport sector?

If you work in the transport sector, you may be faced with checks on your identity document (ID). There are rules for what may and what may not be done with your ID. This depends on the situation.

Deliverer

Do you come to deliver or collect goods as a deliverer? Then the organisation where you deliver or collect may ask for your ID. The organisation is allowed to store some data of you, such as:

  • which identity document you have shown (for example, your passport or identity card) and the number of this document;
  • the name of the company that you work for;
  • the registration number of your business vehicle, lorry or van.

The organisation is not allowed to make a copy of your ID.

Your employer
