Where can I turn if I have a question about what an organisation does with my data?
If you have a question or a complaint about the processing of your personal data, first contact the organisation to which your question relates.
Often, the Data Protection Office (DPO) of the organisation is the first point of contact. The DPO monitors compliance with the privacy rules within the organisation and may be able to answer your question.
You will usually find the contact details of the DPO (or privacy officer) on the website of the organisation. And if this is not the case, you can also ask your question through the general contact address. Do you not receive a (satisfactory) answer to your question? Then you can submit a tip-off or complaint to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (AP).
Do you decide to submit a complaint to the AP? Bear in mind then that the AP always asks if you have brought up the problem with the organisation first. We also ask for proof. For example, an email.
Do you have a general question about the privacy rules? Then you can contact the Privacy Information and Reporting Centre (in Dutch) of the AP. During the telephone consultation hour, we can answer your general questions about the GDPR. We cannot discuss your personal situation or a specific organisation.
