Camera use in and around the home
To protect your property, you may install a camera at your home or use a video doorbell. But you must ensure that you invade the privacy of other people, such as your neighbours or passers-by, as little as possible. Just like your neighbours must take your privacy into account when they install a camera at their home. This is stipulated in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Camera use & the GDPR
If you are a private individual and make camera recordings for domestic use, the GDPR does, in principle, not apply.
However, the GDPR does apply if you film parts of public spaces for security purposes. Or if you make the images available to an unlimited number of people, for example, on the Internet. In such cases, you need consent from the people you have filmed, among other things.
A housing association or owners’ association must also comply with the GDPR when installing a camera.
Providing camera images
The police may request or demand images from your camera. You must then comply with certain rules in the GDPR.
Complaints about cameras
The Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA) receives many complaints about cameras from neighbours. If you feel your privacy is being violated by someone else’s camera, you can take action yourself.
