I am starting my own business. What does the GDPR mean for me?

As a starting entrepreneur, you are probably going to process personal data. For example, names and email addresses of your customers. In that case, you are obliged to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In this way, you protect the privacy of your customers, they keep confidence in you, and will be happy to come back to you.

You get the basics in order in 5 steps:

  1. Find out which personal data you process and why.
  2. Determine if you are allowed to use these data.
  3. Make an overview of all data.
  4. Get the security in order.
  5. Observe the privacy rights.

Follow the step-by-step plan (in Dutch), then you will know what you need to arrange. And what you have to do if, for example, you have to deal with a data breach. Or when customers ask for access to their personal data that you process.

Is your business going well and are you hiring your first employee(s)? Then the time has come for you to arrange a number of additional GDPR matters.
